Synthesis, crystal structure and properties of a new hydrate of manganese thiocyanate with composition Mn(NCS)2(H2O)2

Abstract The reaction of Mn(NCS) 2 with 3‐cyanopyridine in water accidentally leads to the formation single crystals (H O) ( 1 ). If synthesis is performed without 3‐cyanopyridine, known tetrahydrate 4 formed. In crystal structure new hydrate, Mn 2+ cations are linked by pairs μ‐1,3‐bridging anionic ligands chains, which further connected via units into layers, that additionally stabilized intralayer hydrogen bonding.
